There are apparent changes between the hot season and cold season in Hanoi. Usually, it is hot and rainy from  May to September, with an average temperature of 29.2ºC,however, it is not consistent and does not affect your travel. The cold season in Hanoi is generally from November to March when the temperatures can fall below 10ºC.

This guide will unveil where to eat like locals, shop exquisite souvenirs, entertain at night and explore some of the most interesting attractions in Hanoi. The Perfume Pagoda, Ninh Binh with the limestone caves of Tam Coc, Trang An and Bai Dinh Pagoda, and Halong Bay are some of the top places around Hanoi.

1 DAY HOLIDAY

Most attractions of Hanoi are set around the Old Quarter. To avoid losing time, book a hotel in Hoan Kiem District. You can jump up out of bed to see people doing their morning exercises around Hoan Kiem Lake. After breakfast, you can take bike ride or motor through  the Old Quarter to  West Lake where are standing the Tran Quoc Pagoda and the Quan Thanh Temple.  Not far from the lake is the complex of Ho Chi Minh. You pay a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and follow the walkway to visit his house and catch a look at the One Pillar Pagoda. You then head to the Temple of Literature, one of the most interesting places in Hanoi before  your lunch at one of the famous eating spots like Bun Cha Huong Lien or Koto Restaurant.  After all, you have a look at the St Joseph Cathedral or Vietnam  Museum of History or others and stroll along Hang Gai and To Tich Streets. They are shopping paradises where you can try your hand at bargaining.  Stretching your legs at one of massage shops in Hang Trong Street and sip a coffee at Thuy Ta Restaurant that faces the famous water puppet theatre. You have  enjoy a show here before refreshing up for an evening out.  Many little restaurants and bars open until midnight in Hanoi old quarter.


2 DAY HOLIDAY

Many people give the city a couple of days in Hanoi before continuing their holiday to Ninh Binh,  Halong Bay, Sapa or down to the centre and south of Vietnam. The pleasant way to start your exploration of Hanoi is a walk around the old quarter where jostle many shop houses, ancient structures and eating spots. You follow the artery of Hang Buom to see the Bach Ma Temple before going along  Hang Ngang and Hang Dao Streets to do check out the stalls in  Dong Xuan Market. Venturing into the old quarter, you see both the local life, street vendors, bustling eating spots  and shopping at Hang Gai and Hang Trong Streets from which  St Joseph’s Cathedral and Hoan Kiem Lake are just a short distance way. The detour from the south of Hoan Kiem Lake leads you to the Opera House and Sofitel Metropole Hotel in the French Quarter. You round off this day with a street food and try some local drinks.
The second day should start with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Complex. It is better to get there early to avoid queuing in the heat for too long. Following the walkway in a lush garden, you see the Ho Chi Minh House and the nearby One Pillar Pagoda. Hanoi has many museums and landmarks awaiting your exploration. Don’t miss the Fine Art Museum and the Temple of Literature, known as the first university and the Confucius center of Vietnam. Hanoi has many museums and landmarks, including the National History Museum of Vietnam, Women’s Museum, Hoa Lo Prison and  Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. To learn more about Hanoi and Vietnam, take your choice depending on your references. Getting out of these structures, you get the fresh air from Water Lake, sample some local delicacies and spend this evening at one of the famous bar in the old quarter.

3 DAYS HOLIDAY

With thousand years of history and mix of architecture, Hanoi has much to explore.  Spending a half day in  the old quarter, you captures the old date culture of Hanoi people , visit some of interesting structures like Bach Ma Temple in Hang Buom Street, Dong Xuan Market, Hoan Kiem Lake with its sacred temple. The old quarter of Hanoi is also a shopping paradise where you find exquisite souvenirs.   After lunch at one of the famous eating spot, it is time to see the famous Vietnam Museum of Ethnology focusing on 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam and admire the local life around West Lake, home to  the Quan Thanh Temple and the  Tran Quoc Pagoda. They are some of the most striking structures in Hanoi. Heading back to the old quarter, you can make a stop for a  walk along the famous Long Bien Bridge, a historic cantilever bridge across the Red River that connects Hoan Kiem and Long Bien Districts  of Hanoi City. This picturesque bridge, together with the  Opera House, Sofitel Metropole, St Joseph’s Cathedral and National Museum of Vietnamese History,… has been built under the French colonial time. Despite the turbulent history, they probably remain unimpaired until today. You can see one or all depending on your reference before sitting down at Thuy Ta Restaurant by Hoan Kiem Lake to taste your preferred drink. In front of this restaurant is a theatre where you can see the famous water puppet show.
The second day gives you more time to explore Hanoi from dawn to midnight. Jumping up out of bed, you see people doing their morning exercises around Hoan Kiem Lake. A  visit to Hanoi is not complete without the Ho Chi Minh Complex. It is better to get there early to avoid queuing in the heat for too long. Following the walkway in a lush garden, you see the Ho Chi Minh House and the nearby One Pillar Pagoda. Hanoi has many museums and landmarks awaiting your exploration. Don’t miss the Fine Art Museum and the Temple of Literature, known as the first university and the Confucius center of Vietnam. The rest of day two is good to check out a few museums or landmarks, including the National History Museum of Vietnam, Women’s Museum and Hoa Lo Prison. After refreshing up for an evening out, you spend your time to  join a Vespa tour or Ao Show.
The third day can be filled with a cooking course where you will learn about valuable ingredients and techniques involved in Vietnamese cuisine. The cooking class often includes a street food and market tour, so it really is something for everyone! After tasting of what you cooked at the cooking class, you join a motor tour and heat out to venture into the city outskirt. You get a deeper understanding of the local life on the way Bat Trang Village. Here, you see artisans in action, try your hand at making ceramics, and purchase direct from the artisans.
