Thailand HOLIDAYS

WHERE TO BE Thailand

WHERE TO BE

The clash of tradition and modernity is most intense in Bangkok, the first stop on almost any itinerary.  After touchdown in Bangkok, much of the package-holiday traffic flows east to Pattaya, the country’s seediest resort, but for prettier beaches you’re better off venturing just a little further, to the islands of Ko Samet and the Ko Chang archipelago, with their squeaky white sand and shorefront bungalows.

WHEN TO GO TO Thailand

WHERE TO BE
The climate of most of Thailand is governed by three seasons: rainy (roughly May–Oct), caused by the southwest monsoon dumping moisture gathered from the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand; cool (Nov–Feb); and hot (March–May). The rainy season is the least predictable of the three, and worth considering when thinking about the best time to visit, varying in length and intensity from year to year, but it's still only from May to Oct.

WHAT TO SEE IN Thailand

WHERE TO BE
Mouthwatering food, rich culture, historical landmarks, and gorgeous beaches - there's nothing that Thailand doesn't have. But this can be both a blessing and a curse. With so much to do and see, it can be tough to narrow down exactly where to spend those precious out-of-office days. The upside is that there's something for everyone. Whether you want to find your zen or party into the night, there are spots all over this southeast Asian country to suit your vacation wishes.

Thailand TRAVEL GUIDE

Thailand is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world - Twenty years ago it was considered 'daring' to travel to Thailand. Times have certainly changed. From the majestic five-star hotels in Bangkok to simple beach huts in Koh Samui or Koh Samet, accommodation choices are many. From the stunning plains and hills of the Golden Triangle to the wave-lapped white sand beaches of Phuket, Samui and Krabi, the kingdom radiates beauty. Thailand has so much to offer that one visit is never enough – you'll want to come back and discover more time after time.

It's hard to summarize the diversity of travel to Thailand. Its capital, Bangkok, is a teeming metropolis with gilded temples and palaces, while the two coastlines, on the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, have postcard-perfect beaches. In the mountainous interior, hill tribes live as they have for millennia. And wherever you travel in Thailand, there's the food: fresh seafood, countless curries, and noodle dishes so delicious you'll never want to return to your local Thai take-out. Your most lasting impression, however, will be the friendliness of the locals - calling Thailand the "land of smiles"; may seem cliché, but it has a foundation in truth. Read our Thailand travel guide to make the most of your visit to this beautiful nation.

With soaring limestone islands, white sandy bays and colorful shacks, Thailand is one of the world's quintessential paradise destinations. It's the stuff of vacation fantasy. But while few places are better for a sun-drenched break, there's so much more to this country than kicking back with a cocktail. Head north to Chiang Mai for the very best in fresh Thai cooking and long bike rides through the surrounding hills and paddy fields. Trek the forests and mountains near Chiang Rai. And explore Ayutthaya's ancient temples. Bangkok, meanwhile, is the ultimate Asian metropolis, a lightning-paced city chock-full of stunning roof top bars and delicious street-food spots.

Thailand Festivals

Destinations in Thailand - Asianventure Tours

There are countless festivals and special events held in Thailand throughout the year. Some of these are celebrated nationwide (e.g. Songkran and Loy Krathong) whilst other festivals are specific to particular cities or provinces. With a number of Thai festivals and Buddhist holidays, the exact date varies each year because it depends on the lunar calendar and the night of the full moon. Thai festivals are usually related to religions such as the Candle Festival on Khao Phansa Day (Buddhist Lent Day), the Tak Bat Thewo Festival on Awk Phansa Day (end of Buddhist Lent Day), the Flower Alms Offering Festival, the Kathina or Annual Buddhist Robe Offering Ceremony, and the Buddhist Forest Robe Offering Ceremony.
