Tour Overview

A two week adventure across Northern Vietnam’s most extraordinary destinations. In Vietnam’s rapidly-developing capital, Hanoi, we will discover the city’s old charm; taking in ancient houses, historic temples, colonial buildings and lively street culture. We will leave the bustle of the city for the remote countryside, where we will enjoy a relaxing boat trip across the Ba Be Lakes, taking in dazzling caves and impressive waterfalls, and experience staying overnight local families in traditional houses. As we travel through this mountainous region, we will discover awe-inspiring views and encounter hill-tribe communities in their villages as well as at colourful weekend markets. We will journey on to the spectacular hill town of Sapa, where we will walk to visit numerous fascinating ethnic minority villages, whilst admiring the sensational scenery of mountains, valleys and steeply terraced rice fields. We will venture to Mu Cang Chai, becoming increasingly famous for its wonderful panoramic vistas of rice fields. We will enjoy a two day cruise through world-famous Halong Bay, marveling at the astonishing views and impressive caves.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival – Hanoi

Greeted  at airport by our guide and driven to hotel. Check in hotel and have free time.

OVERNIGHT: Hanoi MEALS: No

On arrival at Hanoi Airport, you are greeted  by our guide and taken to your hotel by private transfer. You may have free time to relax and catch your first glimpse of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. This treasured city is a fascinating blend of East and West, combining traditional Sino-Vietnamese motifs with French flair. The building boom has made Hanoi a rapidly developing city in Southeast Asia. However, it still retains an old charm brought from a thousand year of history, with many interesting cultural and historic monuments, beautiful lakes, shady parks, bustling street markets, funny shops and open air eating spots jostled in ancient houses, and historic temples adjoining colonial style structures. They offer both local and foreigner visitors an endless exploration. You can stroll through the fascinating old quarter containing many vibrant streets which are named after the specific goods once offered for sale at these places. The lively atmosphere in Hanoi old quarter runs from the early hours until late at night  with many street vendors calling, horns honking, and chaotic traffic with waves of motorbikes you’ve never experienced.

Day 2

Hanoi City Tour

Spend a day to explore Hanoi, seeing Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum ( close on Mon. and Fri) and  Ho Chi Minh House , One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of  Literature  and Vietnam Museum of Ethnology.  Take a walk around the old quarter and enjoy a water puppet show.

Day 3

Hanoi – Ba Be National Park

Head out of the town,  travel by mountain road to Ba Be National Park. Check in a Tay Village and have  free time to take some activities to explore Ba Be Park.

Day 4

Ba Be National Park – Bao Lac

Take a boat trip in  Ba Be Lakes and discover the birdlife, landscape and Dau Dang Waterfall. Continue navigating along Ba Be Lakes to Puong Cave and drive up to Bao Lac.

Day 5

Bao Lac – Meo Vac – Dong Van

Pay a visit to Bao Lac  market if have a chance and see many hill tribe people. Drive up to Dong Van Geopark to explore the splendid sites , including Nho Que River, Tu San Canyon, and Ma Phi Leng.

OVERNIGHT: Dong Van MEALS: Breakfast

Day 6

Dong Van – Yen Minh – Quan Ba – Ha Giang

Stroll around Dong Van Town to see market and old quarter. Leave Dong Van Geopark for Ha Giang and visit Hmong King Palace,  roadside village and brocade weaving. Check in hotel in Ha Giang and relax.

Day 7

Ha Giang – Hoang Su Phi – Xin Man – Bac Ha

Continue driving via the most mountainous region of Vietnam with stopover at Hoang Su Phi and Xin Man, home to many hill tribe groups such as Nung, Tay, Red Dao, Hmong and La Chi. See steep terrace rice fields ( good season from May to Sep) and drop down to Bac Ha.

Day 8

Bac Ha – Si Ma Cai – Sapa

Follow a winding mountain road along the Vietnam and China border line to Si Ma Cai. Make stop to see some of the hill tribe groups, including Hmong, Dao, Phu la, Pa Di and Tu Di. Keep driving through Muong Khuong and Lao Cai Towns to Sapa Hillstation.

Day 9

Sapa Walking – Muong Hoa Valley – Y Linh Ho – Lao Chai

Start exploring Sapa Hillstation on a walk from Y Linh Ho to Lao Chai and Ta Van Villages. Meet hill tribe people and discover the mountain scenery. Drive back to Sapa Town and have time to explore the town at leisure.

Day 10

Sapa – Tam Duong – Mu Cang Chai

Leave Sapa and drive along a challenging road to Mu Cang Chai. En route, visit O Quy Ho Pass, Heaven Gate and some villages of Lao and Lu ethnic minorities . Arriving in Mu Cang Chai, check in local house  and walk around the village.

Day 11

Mu Cang Chai – Tu Le – Nghia Lo – Hanoi

Say goodbye to villagers and keep driving pass  many tea plantations, rice fields and villages to Hanoi. Make stop at Khau Pha Pass and Tu Le Valley to admire  splendid landscape and some hill tribe villages of the White Thai, Dao Nga Hoang, Hmong and  Muong

Day 12

Hanoi – Halong Bay

Take a drive through the countryside to  Halong Bay. Embark a cruise for two day trip in Halong Bay, visit the scenic stone landscape and enjoy sea activities.

Day 13

Halong Bay – Hanoi

Get up early to join the Tai Chi exercise or explore the bay at dawn. Visit Surprise cave and have brunch on cruise before heading back to Hanoi.

Day 14

Hanoi – Departure

Check out hotel and transfer to airport for departure.
