The city alone is worth a wander, especially its large riverside market. Northwest of Cao Bang is the Pac Bo Caves where Ho Chi Minh hid out upon returning from China. On designated days, usually on weekend mornings, you should come visit the hill tribe markets in the towns outside of Cao Bang.
The cool climate of Cao Bang province is suitable for tourism all year round. But to avoid the rain, you should travel at spring season - from February to May. If you want to witness the beautiful snow that covers trees and mountains in Trung Khanh or Tra Linh Mount areas, you are supposed to come to Cao Bang from November to January
The sunset in Cao Bang is an event, best viewed from the bridge or walking along the riverside promenade. Also the famed Ban Gioc Waterfall northwest of town, one of the most photographed waterfalls in the world. The hill tribe markets in the towns outside of Cao Bang (on your way to Pac Bo or Ban Gioc) is a photographer’s dream place
