Tour Overview

Visit the most beautiful natural sites in Lao, stopping at ancient towns and the bustling capital city on your journey. This tour commences in Vientiane, where we will see the city’s most important sites, including Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple in Vientiane, and the former royal temple of Haw Pha Kaew. We will shop at the city’s vibrant morning market and get a taste of local life along the mighty Mekong river. We will journey to the tranquil village of Van Vieng, which is surrounded by beautiful mountainous scenery, and visit various spectacular caves in the area. We can walk to Phatthao Village and meet the Hmong hill-tribe community living there. We will travel to the Xieng Khouang Plateau, to see the mystifying “Plain of Jars” archaeological site. We will venture on to the picturesque town of Sam Neua, from which we will visit the fascinating cave complex at Vieng Xai, which sheltered around 20,000 people from bombing during the second Indochina war. We will explore the picturesque riverside town of Nong Khiaw, where we will trek to the famous 100 Waterfalls. We will visit the mysterious Pakou Caves, stopping at small, rural villages to see traditional craft-making. In the charming town of Luang Prabang, we will discover ancient monuments and temples, including the sacred monument of Wat Visoun, the temples of Wat Xieng Thong and Wat Mai, and the former Royal Palace. We will trek to the spectacular 60 meter high Kuang Si Waterfalls, to relax and swim, with an opportunity to also visit a nearby bear sanctuary.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival – Vientiane

Greeted  at airport by our guide and driven to hotel. Check in hotel and have free time to explore the town at leisure.

On arrival at Vientiane Airport, you are greeted by our guide and taken to your hotel by private transfer. We may have some time free to explore the capital city of Laos, Vientiane. This laidback city stretching long the mighty Mekong River conjures up exotic images with the curious mix of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and French influences. The initial history of Vientiane dates back the sixteenth century, but it left its legacy in form of few pagodas which are still standing in place after many struggles for the independence. The recent economic reform of Laos has made this small city undergo some vast changes with growing ambition. However, the historic old quarter of Vientiane still houses many French colonial villas, boutique hotels, vibrant shop malls, open air restaurants and tree lined boulevards. You can walk  from the old quarter area to the Mekong riverbank, admiring the cityscape and catching a view of the Mekong River. The long riverside is lined up with local food stands and open air bars, good place to enjoy some  drinks and  explore the authentic local ways of life.

Day 2

Vientiane – Vang Vieng

Start a guided tour of Vientiane. Visit Wat Sisaket , Haw Pha Kaew , Patouxai and That Luang Stupa . Head out of town , travel by road to Vang Vieng.

Day 3

Vang Vieng Exploration

Spend this day walking in Vang Vieng.  Visit some important caves, including Tham Xang, Tham Hoi , Tham Nam ,… Round off our walk at Phatthao villages and see Hmong hill tribe people.

Day 4

Vang Vieng – Xieng Khouang – Phonsavan

Leave Vang Vieng and travel on winding road to Phonsavan, base for our exploration of plain of jars. En route, make stops to see roadside villages. Arriving in Phonsavan, check in hotel and stroll around to see bomb gallery.

Day 5

Xieng Khouang – Plain Of Jars – Sam Neua

Head out of Phonsavan Town and start exploring plain of jars.  Keep driving to  Muang Khoun, old town center of Xieng Khouang. Visit Tha Foun and Wat Piawat in Muang Khoun and travel by road to Sam Neua

Day 6

Sam Neua – Vieng Xai – Sam Neua

Spend this day to explore Vieng Sai historical site in Laos. Unlock various caves  to learn how Pathet Laos have passed their life underground system. Take short drive to nearby  Hmong village and see  local house of this trible group.

Day 7

Sam Neua – Vieng Thong – Nong Khiaw

Start early moring drive to Nongkhiaw. Travel through untouched villages and see beautiful landscape of rice fields and jungle. Check in hotel in Nongkhiaw and  visit at leisure.

Day 8

Nong Khiaw – 100 Waterfall Trekking

Take boat trop along  Nam Ou River to Don Khou Village. Explore the village local life and start trekking to explore  hundred waterfall landscape. Walk down from this fall and see landscape of Nam OU Valley before head back.

Day 9

Nong Khiaw – Pakou Caves – Luang Prabang

Keep driving to Pak Ou Village and cross Mekong River by boat to visit Pakou Caves. Take boat again to cruise along Mekong River to Luang Prabang with stopover at Ban Xang Hai. Check in hotel and have free  time to explore Luang Prabang at leisure.

Day 10

Luang Prabang City Tour

Spend  this day exploring Luang Prabang Town.  Visit Wat Xieng Thong, Royal Palace, national Museum, Wat Mai and Wat Visoun. Walk up  to Phousi hill  to visit this hill top temple and catch view of Luang Prabang.

Day 11

Luang Prabang – Kuang Si Waterfall Trekking – Bear Sanctuary

Drive to Ban Long Lao Village of Hmong hill tribe people and start trekking through lush jungle to Kuang Si Waterfall. Enjoy relaxing and swimming at turquoise pools and  visit nearby bear sanctuary.

Day 12

Luang Prabang – Departure

Check out hotel and transfer to  airport for departure

PASSPORT & VISA

The passport must have six-months validity remaining and one blank page for entry stamp. To enter Laos, foreigners require a valid visa, except  nationals of certain countries, which may visit  Laos without visa for a period of time. You are required to contact our sales dep. to get the update visa exemption.

 

VACCINATION

At this time, no vaccination is required, but you should check with your doctor the health  information of Laos.

 

CUSTOM REGULATION

Based on the current custom regulation of Laos , visitors can get free import : 200 cigarettes or 500 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco;  2 liters of alcohol or wine or 5 liters of beer;  1 item of perfume or eau de toilette; personal effects.

The foreign currency in amounts exceeding USD 2,000.- (in cash or checks) must be declared on arrival or departure.
