Tour Overview

Enjoy the natural beauty of Laos on this thirteen day trip through some of the country’s most spectacular landscapes and charming towns. Our journey will start in the charming town of Luang Prabang, where we will discover ancient monuments and temples, including the sacred monument of Wat Visoun, the temples of Wat Xieng Thong and Wat Mai, and the former Royal Palace. We will ride our bike to the Tad Sae waterfall, enjoy elephant ride  and boat trip. We will head into the mountains,visiting the peaceful village of Muang Ngoy and Nongkhiaw riverside town. We continue to the picturesque town of Phongsaly, known for its Chinese influence and diverse ethnic groups. From nearby Bounneua we will trek through beautiful scenery, visiting small local villages and meeting hill-tribe communities living there. There is an opportunity to also trek to Ban Komaen - famous for its 400 year old tea trees. We will travel by road to Muang Sing and Luang Nam Tha, which are famous for the peaceful village of Muong Khoa and hilltribe diversity. We trek in Nam Ha Protected Area before travelling down the Mekong River from Pakbeng to Luang Prabang. We visit  the mysterious Pakou Caves, stopping at small, rural villages.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival – Luang Prabang

Greeted  at airport by our guide and driven to hotel. Check in hotel and have free time to explore the town at leisure.

On arrival at Luang Prabang  Airport, you are greeted by our guide and transferred to your hotel.  You may have free time to relax and catch your first glimpse of Luang Prabang. This ancient town is strikingly built on a peninsula formed by the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers. The  human life  has been recognized in Luang Prabang for over thousand years; however, it began a prosperous time, once being the royal capital of the Lane Xang Kingdom. Luang Prabang is  exceptional for the  architectural and artistic heritage reflecting an outstanding fusion of Lao traditional urban architecture with colonial structures. The gleaming temples, traditional wooden houses and colonial style buildings of Luang Prabang  are remarkably preserved to make for a unique charm rarely found in all Asia. You can wander through the town old quarter where are many striking structures adjoining along narrow lanes  and friendly people around. The main street is a paradise while it gives way to the night market, a famous place to sample local foods and buy some souvernirs at bargaining. This fascinating old quarter captivates travellers in all senses and offers an endless exploration.

Day 2

Luang Prabang City Tour

Spend  this day exploring Luang Prabang Town.  Visit Wat Xieng Thong, Royal Palace, national Museum, Wat Mai and Wat Visoun. Walk up  to Phousi hill  to visit this hill top temple and catch view of Luang Prabang.

Day 3

Luang Prabang – Biking – Elephant Ride – Tad Sae Waterfall

Start cycling to upstream of Nam Khan River. Along the way, visit Wat Phon Phau and Henri Mouhot Tomb. Enjoy elephant ride through lush jungle and take boat ride to visit Tadse Waterfall. Relax or visit baby elephant before cycling back to LuangPrabang.

Day 4

Luang Prabang – Nong Khiaw – Muang Ngoy

Take drive to Nongkhiaw past the mountain cenery. Arriving in Nongkhiaw, enjoy boat trip along Nam Ou River to visit Muang Ngoy. Return by boat to Nongkhiaw.

Day 5

Nong Khiaw – Muang Bountai – Phongsaly

Continue travelling on mountain road to Phongsly. En route, make stop at Ban Pak Nam Noi. Head up to Phongsaly and chek  in hotel. Stroll around this town to catch your first glimpse.

Day 6

Phongsaly – Boun Neua Trekking

Head out of Phonsaly and drive to Boun Neua. Star trekking in undulating mountain and jungle to visit Akha hill tribe village. Walk back to Boun Neua and return to Phongsaly.

Day 7

Phongsaly – Ban Komaen – Oudomxay

Spend time to walk around Phongsaly Town to visit market and Museum of Tribe. Take drive or trek to explore Ban Komaen famous for old tea plantation. Leave Phongsaly for Oudomxay and make stop to see many tribal villages.

Day 8

Oudomxay – Muang Sing

Take drive to Muang Sing Town. En route, make stop as much as possible to see villages and countryside. Arriving in Muang Sing,  stroll around to visit this hill town, including tribal museum and Wat Sing Jai.

Day 9

Muang Sing Trekking

Get transfer to Nam Ha Protected Area and spend this day trekking in jungle to discover the rain forest and Ban Nam Daet Mai of Akha hilltribe people and Ban Nam Mai of Yao ethnic minorities.

Day 10

Muang Sing – Xieng Kok – Luang Nam Tha

Get up early and visit Muang Sing Market. Travel by dirty road to explore Xieng Kok. Visit some hill tribe villages and keep driving to Luang Nam Tha.

Day 11

Luang Nam Tha – Oudomxay – Pakbeng

Explore Luang Nam Tha Town with Golden Stupa and nearby Black Thai village. Keep driving via Oudomxay to Pakbeng for our next day cruise.

Day 12

Pakbeng – Pakou Caves – Luang Prabang

Continue cruising along  Mekong River and get view of  local life close up. En route, visit Pakou Cave and Ban Xang Hai. Arriving in Luang Prabang, take a short drive to hotel.

Day 13

Luang Prabang – Departure

The holiday ends with a transfer to  Luang Prabang Airport for  your departure.

PASSPORT & VISA

The passport must have six-months validity remaining and one blank page for entry stamp. To enter Laos, foreigners require a valid visa, except  nationals of certain countries, which may visit  Laos without visa for a period of time. You are required to contact our sales dep. to get the update visa exemption.

VACCINATION

At this time, no vaccination is required, but you should check with your doctor the health  information of Laos.

CUSTOM REGULATION

Based on the current custom regulation of Laos , visitors can get free import : 200 cigarettes or 500 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco;  2 liters of alcohol or wine or 5 liters of beer;  1 item of perfume or eau de toilette; personal effects.

 The foreign currency in amounts exceeding USD 2,000.- (in cash or checks) must be declared on arrival or departure.
