Tour Overview

Experience the natural beauty of rural Laos with an active trip which also takes in the charming town of Luang Prabang and it’s surrounding natural sites on this eight day tour. This active tour opens in the Northern town of Nam Tha, an area of staggering natural beauty. We will have the opportunity to cycle, trek and kayak through lush jungle, green valleys and stunning mountains, visiting small local villages and meeting ethnic minority communities. This adventure will take us on to the picturesque riverside town of Nong Khiaw, from where we will trek to the famous 100 Waterfalls. Before reaching Luang Prabang, we will visit the mysterious Pakou Caves, adorned with thousands of Buddha statues. In the charming town of Luang Prabang, we will discover ancient monuments and temples, including the sacred monument of Wat Visoun, where we can walk the 318 steps up Phousi Hill to the golden stupa to enjoy panoramic views across the landscape. We will visit the spectacular 60 meter high Kuang Si Waterfalls, where we can relax, swim and climb the falls, with an opportunity to also visit a nearby bear sanctuary.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Houay Xai – Luang Nam Tha

Cross Thailand – Laos border and meet with guide for overland trip in northern Laos.  Drive along winding road to Luang Nam Tha and visit Golden Stupa and countryside.

OVERNIGHT: Luang Namtha MEALS: No

On arrival at Houay Xai border gate, you complete the border crossing formalities to enter Laos.  You are met up by our guide and start an overland trip, venturing into northern Laos. The country road twists up into the mountains, cutting a path through rock and along thickly forested and river valleys to Luang Nam Tha Town, a base for our walking adventure in coming day. This remote mountainous region offers more natural wonders than anywhere else in Laos and also many outdoor activities, including  trekking, mountain biking, rafting, and kayaking. There are over twenty ethnic groups who are settled around Luang Nam Tha, making it one of the most ethnically diverse provinces in Laos. On arrival in Luang Nam Tha Town, we enjoy a biking experience as we cycle  around  the green valley. This small town sets in a fertile valley dotted with many villages which remain practically untouched by modernity.  We visit the gleaming golden stupa which dominate the skyline of  Luang Nam Tha Town. This stupa houses a few Buddhas and provides  a fantastic view from the townscape to the jungle and mountains in the far distance. , this sight we continue, cycling  to the Nam Tha River and walk across a bamboo bridge to visit  a traditional village of the Black Thai ethnic minorities. They usually live on stilt house and have different culture and traditions from the nearby  Akha people.

Day 2

Luang Nam Tha Trekking

Take short drive to Ban Jaluensouk and meet our village guide for full day trek in Nam Ha Protected Area. Discover many various species of fauna of this jungle. Complete the trel and drive back to Luang Nam Tha with stopover at hill tribe village of Lantern and Taideng.

Day 3

Luang Nam Tha – Oudomxay – Nong Khiaw

Travel by road to Nong Khiaw, passing by mountain scenery and roadside villages. En route, make stop in Oudomxay Town before heading to Nong Khiaw. Check in hotel and stroll around to get your first glimpse.

Day 4

Nong Khiaw – 100 Waterfall Trekking

Take boat trop along  Nam Ou River to Don Khou Village. Explore the village local life and start trekking to explore  hundred waterfall landscape. Walk down from this fall and see landscape of Nam OU Valley before head back.

Day 5

Nong Khiaw – Pakou Caves – Luang Prabang

Keep driving to Pak Ou Village and cross Mekong River by boat to visit Pakou Caves. Take boat again to cruise along Mekong River to Luang Prabang with stopover at Ban Xang Hai. Check in hotel and have free  time to explore Luang Prabang at leisure.

Day 6

Luang Prabang City Tour

Spend  this day exploring Luang Prabang Town.  Visit Wat Xieng Thong, Royal Palace, national Museum, Wat Mai and Wat Visoun. Walk up  to Phousi hill  to visit this hill top temple and catch view of Luang Prabang.

Day 7

Luang Prabang – Kuang Si Waterfall Trekking - Bear Sanctuary

Drive to Ban Long Lao Village of Hmong hill tribe people and start trekking through lush jungle to Kuang Si Waterfall. Enjoy relaxing and swimming at turquoise pools and  visit nearby bear sanctuary.

Day 8

Luang Prabang – Departure

Check out hotel and transfer to  airport for departure

PASSPORT & VISA

The passport must have six-months validity remaining and one blank page for entry stamp. To enter Laos, foreigners require a valid visa, except  nationals of certain countries, which may visit  Laos without visa for a period of time. You are required to contact our sales dep. to get the update visa exemption.

 

VACCINATION

At this time, no vaccination is required, but you should check with your doctor the health  information of Laos.

 

CUSTOM REGULATION

Based on the current custom regulation of Laos , visitors can get free import : 200 cigarettes or 500 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco;  2 liters of alcohol or wine or 5 liters of beer;  1 item of perfume or eau de toilette;personal effects.

The foreign currency in amounts exceeding USD 2,000.- (in cash or checks) must be declared on arrival or departure.
