c. Cambodia E-visa
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has recently launched e-Visa, which enables you to apply for a Cambodia tourist visa online. Instead of applying through Cambodian embassy or consulate all you need to complete the online application form and pay with your credit card. Once receiving your visa through email, you print it out and bring it along when you travel to Cambodia. You can use the e-visa service if you plan to enter Cambodia via the international airports of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap or certain international border check points including Bavet, Poipet and Cham Yeam only. No different from tourist visa issued by Cambodia embassy or consulate or obtained upon arrival, this e-visa also grants 30 day stay with a single entry, and is valid for 3 months starting from the date of issuance. Currently, this visa process costs US$37 pers. and takes 3 or 4 working days.
Be aware that the e-visa does not support Afghanistan, Algeria, Arab Saudi, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Nigeria. The nationals of these countries are required to apply for Cambodia visa from the nearest Cambodia embassy or consulate offices.
3. Cambodia Visa Type
Generally, Cambodia has several types of visas that you may apply for in order to enter Vietnam, and the purpose of your trip will help determine which type of visa you should apply for. The below list of visa types will explain the primary purpose of each visa type you may obtain in order to enter Cambodia.
a. Cambodia Tourist Visa
The Cambodian tourist visa (T class) is best option for anyone who plans to stay for 30 days or less. This visa type can be obtained in advance from Cambodia embassy, consulate offices or online E-visa or upon arrival at the internaitonal check points. Usually, a tourist visa is valid for single entry only, and can be renewed once for an additional 30 days at the a fee of $45. Once the extension time terminates, you must leave Cambodia and retnter to get a new visa. If you are planning on staying longer in Cambodia, don’t bother with a tourist visa and start with an ordinary visa instead.
b. Cambodia Business Visa
To plan a longer stay in Cambodia you need to apply for the ordinary visa (E class). This visa used to be called the business visa but is now called the normal or ordinary visa. It is also valid for 30 days and costs $35. The difference between the ordinary visa and the tourist visa is that the ordinary one can be extended indefinitely. Be aware that although the “ordinary” visa is often called a “business visa,” it does not confer the right to work in Cambodia. In order to be legally employed, you will need a Cambodia work permit.
Once you have your first 30-day ordinary visa for Cambodia, you can extend it from inside the country for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. It’s advisable to extend it for 6 or 12 months, as these visa types are multiple-entry. The 1- and 3-month ordinary visas are single-entry only, meaning that if you leave for a weekend trip to Vietnam, you’ll need to get a new Cambodian visa when you return.
c. Diplomatic and Official Visa
These visas are granted to foreigners who visit Cambodia on government or diplomatic business. The applicant for this visa type must submit an official letter (note verbal) from the concerned agencies of local government, foreign embassies or consulates accredited to the applicant's country, international organizations or other accredited organizations based in that country.
4. Cambodia Visa Exemption
Currently, Cambodia allows nationals of 7 countries to enter Cambodia without a visa for varying time periods, most of the countries being members of the ASEAN.
Regions | Countries | Duration of stay without visa |
Asia | Indonesia | Within 30 days |
Laos | Within 30 days | |
Malaysia | Within 30 days
Philippines | Within 21 days
Singapore | Within 30 days
Thailand | Within 14 days
Vietnam | Within 30 days |
5. Visa Extension
The extension of a tourist visa without leaving the territory of Cambodia, which used to be tolerated before, has been strictly prohibited by the Cambodian government for the past year. That is, if you are holding a tourist visa you will need to exit from the territory of Cambodia on or before the expiry date of your tourist visa. However, recently, we have been informed that an extension may be possible again. We strongly suggest that you consult a reliable local visa agent if you plan to have your Cambodian tourist visa extended.
If you are planning to stay longer in Cambodia beyond the allowable period of your tourist visa, you must first go out of Cambodia on or before the expiry date of your tourist visa. You may, for example, go to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam or to Bangkok, Thailand. After leaving the territory of Cambodia you may turn around at the border and re-enter.
When you re-enter Cambodia, at the border, you may apply for a regular visa (also referred to as "Business Visa" or "Ordinary Visa"). If you are granted a regular visa, the first one that will be given to you can be used only once (single-entry) and good only for 30 days. It costs US$35.00. Later, after you have been issued your first regular visa, you may further extend your stay in Cambodia by purchasing a new (your second) regular visa before the expiration date of your first regular visa. For your second regular visa, you have the option to get one that is good for 3 months and also for 6 months as well as up to one year. You can purchase this through a reliable local visa agent, and get it within 5 days without the need to leave Cambodia
