vietnam grants short staying russians visa exemption
The decision is expected to further boost Russian arrivals for Vietnam
FROM January 1, 2009, Russians heading to Vietnam for no more than 15 days will be exempted from visa application. The decision is expected to further boost Russian arrivals for Vietnam, which saw 31,451 Russian visitor arrivals in the first seven months this year. This represented an impressive 114.8 per cent year-on-year growth from 2007. Vietnamese beach destinations, such as Phan Thiet, Nha Trang and Danang, are hotspots for Russian tourists. Furama Resort Danang executive assistant manager, Mr Nguyen Duc Quynh, said: "Danang is becoming popular with Russians who are drawn to the destination's wonderful beaches, nightlife entertainment and seafood variety. "Once the visa exemption is implemented, Russian visitors, who make holiday decisions at short notice, will be very pleased as they will be able to save on time and money spent on visa application at the airport." Furama Resort Danang received 1,557 Russian guests in the first eight months of this year and Russia is the resort's sixth largest contributing source market. With the announcement of the new policy, the hotel saw an increase in site inspections conducted by Russian tour operators, such as Tourbazaar and Heritage Tours. Mr Quynh said: "Russian guests are increasingly important to us. They spend a daily average of US$185 with us, which is 40 per cent higher than other source markets. More than US$100 per day is spent on f&b and spa services alone. "Secondly, Russians stay an average of six to 14 nights in Vietnam, and a large part of their stay is spent at the beach. Longer stay eases our operation for check-in and check-out."
