RAFTING ALONG WA RIVER IN MAE CHARIM DISTRICT

The Mae Charim National Par covering about 270,000 rai or 432 square kilometers, is occupied with convoluted ranges. The highest peak is Doi Khun Lan, which reaches the altitude of 1,652 meters. The Wa River, the main tributary of the Nan River, orighnates from Doi Phu Kha in Doi Phu Kha National Park, and flows southward to north of Bo Kluea, Santi Suk and Mae Charim, before joining the Nan River at Wiang Sa. The Wa River course in Mae Charim National Park is 7.5 kilometers long. The forests found in the park include Hill pine, Hill evergreen, Dry evergreen, Mixed deciduous, Dry dipterocarp and Moist evergreen forests.
Rafting along Nan Wa River takes about 2-5 hours, starting from Ban Nam Pu in Amphoe Mae Charim to Ban Hat Rai in Amphoe Wiang Sa. The best season for rafting here is from October to February. Some travel agents in Bangkok and Nan organize rafting trips along Wa River.
