Cai Rang floating market
The Cai Rang Market, only one-hour motored-boat ride from the Ninh Kieu Quay, is the nearest floating market from Can Tho (only 7km). Although the market is also accessible by road, it is far more interesting to reach by boat. Then visitors can be up-close to local boats and see farmers exchanging goods directly from boats. Visitors can buy fresh fruit and enjoy it on site.
Phong Dien floating market
Two hours by motored-boat (15km from Can Tho), the market is considered the best floating market in Mekong Delta in which there are less motorized craft. Sellers and buyers gather in the stand-up rowing boats around the intersection of the canals. This is very interesting to view the transaction here.
Phung Hiep floating market
The biggest floating market in the Mekong Delta is called Phung Hiep. Markets open at 5 am and are open till 11 am. This is one of the reasons I recommend a stay of at least two days. The only way to visit one of these floating markets is staying in the Mekong Delta area, waking up early and taking one of the boats first hour in the morning. The Delta is too far from Saigon to visit one of the markets if you do not sleep here. If you do a one day excursion, you will only see the canals. Markets will be already closed by the time you get here.
