Vientiane Capital has approved over 100 billion kip to subsidise agricultural production and repair related facilities after the recent severe flooding which has left behind 206 billion kip in damage.
This fund will be allocated to improve different segments of the agriculture sector respectively: 10 billion kip for purchasing crop seeds, 16 billion kip for agriculture, 59 billion kip for livestock, 15 billion kip for the irrigation renovation, and 415 million kip for training courses, assessment and surveillance, said Dr Sinlavong Khoudphaythoune, Vientiane Mayor, at a meeting on 21 August.
Dr Sinlavong added that the fund will be spent on agricultural promotion after flooding to help Vientiane farmers to replant their cash crops and rice.
More than 270 villages and 17,220 families in eight districts, Vientiane Capital, have been affected by flood, (except Chanthaboury district) with the damage cost of 206 billion kip.
The latest figure showed that more than 20,000 ha of agriculture production were inundated of which 15,362 ha were rice fields, 314 ha fish ponds,
In addition, more than 1,600 fish cages along the Mekong and Nam Ngum rivers, 67 irrigation stations have been damaged and 47 animals died and canals running 184 km were also broken.
