Cambodia To Launch New Tourism Branding

cambodia to launch new tourism branding
Siem Reap - Cambodia is in the process of establishing a "marketing and promotion board" and launching a new tourism branding for the country.
When asked if it was time for Cambodia to launch a new tourism branding, Ministry of Tourism director-general, Mr Kousoum Saroeuth, told TTG Asia the ministry certainly hoped to do so, with a new theme.

Tourism minister, Dr Thong Khon, is reportedly asking the ministry?s marketing and promotion department to prepare the new branding, while the ministry is working on establishing a marketing and promotion board.

Mr Kousoum Saroeuth said: ?Details of the board, to be represented by the public and private sectors, are being summarised and will then be presented for approval to the prime minister. We hope the board will be established by next year. Then, the country?s tourism stakeholders will be able to decide on the new tourism branding.?

Cambodia launched Visit Cambodia Year in 2003 with the aim of achieving a total of one million visitor arrivals. Mr Kousoum Saroeuth said despite successful marketing activities, the target was missed due to the SARS and avian flu epidemics. Cambodia recorded just 701,014 tourists in that year, representing a 10.87 per cent drop on 2002.

The country reached one million tourists for the first time in 2004, recording 1,055,202 tourists, a 50.53 per cent increase on 2003.

Cambodia expects to welcome 2.04 million tourists this year and 2.44 million visitors next year. Last year, tourists stayed an average length of five days in Cambodia and spent an average of US$650 per person per trip.
