The former provincial capital of Lumphat is something of a ghost town these days thanks to sustained US bombing raids in the early 1970s. However, as the area of Tonle San around Voen Sai becomes more commercialized, this could become an alternative place for an adventurous boat trip to isolated minority villages. This is also the last gasp of civilization, if it can even be called that, for hardcore bikers heading south on the tough trails to Mondulkiri Province.
