DETAILED ITINERARY |
|
The small town of Bago, formerly known as Pegu, was the capital of the Mon Kingdom of Lower Myanmar in the 15th century and is one of the most interesting cities in Myanmar. Today we depart Yangon at 8h30 and drive towards Bago. The colossal reclining Buddha of Shwethalyaung boasts the most impressive sight in this town while the Shwemawdaw Pagoda is extremely venerated. We visit both structures as well as the four giant Buddha images at Kyaikpon Pagoda before wandering around the vibrant, colorful central market. Upon leaving this town we drive back to Yangon and pass through the scenic countryside. Along the way, we make stop to visit the Commonwealth War Cemetery nearby Htaukkyan and the woven bamboo factory. The trip ends after arrival in Yangon. (L) |
