 The Party Committee and Administration of Vientiane Capital organised at the Donchane Palace Hotel in Vientiane on 22 August a grand meeting to mark the August 23rd, the 33rd anniversary of the seizure of administrative power from the royal government.Apart from members of the Party Committee and administration of Vientiane, the audience at the lecture also included revolutionary veterans, dignitaries, representatives of the mass organisations, business community and the general public.
Addressing the audience was Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad, LPRP CC Politburo member. He recalled the protracted struggle for the national salvation for over thirty years, leading to the final seizure of the administrative power in Vientiane and subsequently in other parts of the country.
The uprising in Vientiane took place on August 23, 1975.
The event opened up a new era for the Lao people, an era of freedom, independence and democracy. He pointed out progress made in socio-economic fields that had helped to improve the living conditions of the people.
On this occasion, Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad also presented a number of medals and certificates of merits to leading officials and core cadres of Vientiane capital who have contributed their great efforts in the national defence and construction over the past 30 years. |
